If your Seagate hard drive not recognized Windows 10 computer, carry out the steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1 – USB port
- Check if the USB cable that you have used to connect the Seagate hard drive and your Windows 10 computer is not damaged.
- If so, replace the damaged cable with a new one.
- The USB port might be damaged.
- Try to use another USB port for the drive connection.
Step 2 – Hidden devices
- On the Windows 10 computer, hold the Win and R keys together.
- Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ without the single quotes and press the Enter key.
- When the Device Manager window opens, click the View tab and choose the Show Hidden Devices option.
- If the entries are greyed out, right-click them and select the Uninstall option.
- Reboot the computer and check if the drive is detected.

Step 3 – Changing the drive letter and paths
- Open the Disk Management window by holding the Win and X keys at the same time followed by selecting the Disk Management option.
- Click the Storage option and choose your disk from the left panel.
- Right-click it and choose the Change Drive Letter and Paths option from the context menu.
- Now, a pop-up window will display on the screen.
- Click the Add option, create the drive letter for the Seagate hard drive, and select the OK option.
Step 4 – Disabling the Fast Startup feature
- By default, the Fast Startup feature will be enabled on the Windows 10 computer.
- Access the Windows search bar by pressing the Win and S keys together.
- Type ‘control panel’ in the search bar and select the same from the displayed results.
- Select the Hardware and Sound option followed by the Power Options option.
- Click the ‘Choose what the power button does’ link on the left panel.
- On the main panel, click the ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’ link.
- Scroll down the page, remove the checkmark next to the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option, and click the Save Changes option.
- Restart the computer and check if the Seagate hard drive is recognized.
